New Wrestling Gear for 2010-2011

Nike
As of now, there is no new gear planned prior to August 2010. However, there does appear a high likeliehood that in June 2010 we will have Nike Inflicts in Red, Royal Blue, and Grey (3 different colors). If we receive our shipment, we will have a nice inventory level in those shoes. However, these shoes sold out last year over the summer in many sizes. We likely will have them up for pre-order in March.
 
Also, it appears there will a few new colors of the Nike Takedown. We are still waiting on official word that we are definitely getting these in June 2010. We will likely start pre-selling these as well in March.
 
Asics
So long Rulon wrestling shoes. They will now be known as Aggressor’s. The styling will be very similar to the Rulon’s and will have improvements to the function of the shoe. We have photos up on Facebook if you are interested. Also, there will be a Split Second 8 coming out in what I think are some cool colors (this usually means the high school kids won’t like them).
 
Finally, look for a new Asics headgear coming out in July/August as well. Everyone is trying to find an answer to the Cliff Keen Tornado. That answer might be the Cliff Keen Signature (both top selling headgears). We’ll see what you think about it when we get our samples. Look for youtube shows when we get some samples.
 
adidas/Brute
Not too much information here. Have not really heard too much about their 2010 – 2011 line. Other than the Combat Speed III which will have a retail price around $45. The bottom looks identical or at the very least very similar to the bottom of the Combat Speed II (circa 2004). Can’t believe this is going to be their low end shoe, but I suspect they want to be competitive with the Nike Speedsweep that sells for around $42.

Face Masks are in stock now

Just a quick blog post – we got Cliff Keen Face Masks in today. They have been out for several months.

We did not get too many of them in so order them soon if you want one (or two).  We will likely order a few more of these to shore up our inventory.

New for 2010 (Replacement for Rulon Wrestling Shoes and Split Second VII)

As expected the Split Second VII are being replaced with what – you guessed it the Split Second VIII. This line is a nice step up from your basic wrestling shoe Asics offers. And at this price it provides a nice shoe for that second and third year wrestler who is not quite ready to spend the big money on the high end shoes (or for that first year wrestler that is looking for a little better shoe).

Unexpected (at least by me), was the dropping of the Rulon wrestling shoes. At least the name was dropped but the shoe looks very similar to the former shoe. We still have a bunch of Rulon’s and have some more coming in shortly (at least if all goes to plan). You can buy those at http://www.wrestlinggear.com

Let us know what you think of these shoes. These will be the only Asics shoes that will come out in July 2010. There may be additional shoes coming out later in the year from Asics. When we know, you will know!

National Duals

Dan Gable International Wrestling Institute and Museum
 

Two special events and extended hours at the Dan Gable International Wrestling Institute and Museum highlight the NWCA National Duals wrestling weekend.

 

The Nationals Duals – an event held at the UNI Dome on the campus of Northern Iowa – will take place on Jan. 9-10. This is the fifth year for the event in Cedar Falls.

 

The Gable Museum will host the Northern Iowa Wrestling Booster Club meeting at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, January 6. This event is free and open to the public.

 

On Friday, January 8, Dan Gable will be available at the museum from 2 to 4 p.m. The museum will offer extended hours of operation during the entire National Duals weekend.

 

Schedule of Events

Wednesday, January 6: Northern Iowa Wrestling Booster Club meeting, 7 p.m. This special meeting will be held at the Dan Gable International Wrestling Institute and Museum. This event is free and open to the public.

 

Friday, January 8: Museum open from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.

 

Dan Gable autograph signing, 2 p.m. Museum namesake Dan Gable will be at the museum from 2 to 4 p.m. for pictures and autographs.

 

Saturday January 9: Museum open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

 

Sunday, January 10: Museum open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m; Eastern Iowa Officials Association meeting, 6 p.m.

Support WrestlingGear.Com College Wrestling Week
 

We are working with College Coaches and their fans to help them promote their dual meets duriing the week of January 31 to February 6, 2010. This week has many of the top conferences in action wrestling within their respective conferences. This means there are going to be some great dual meets during this week.

We are looking for 100 people to help us spread the word about the various dual meets going on in their area. If you are interested, follow us on our College Wrestling Week Blog web page. If you are not on FB leave us a note that you are in – either to attend a dual meet or to help us promote these dual meets.
 
Facebook Event Page (let us know you support this event – anyone can join it and please invite others – e.g. post it on your profile page a few times during the next few weeks).
 
Facebook Fan Page (you don’t have to be on FB to see this – if you are become a fan – we are over 5,000 fans – it’s one of the largest Wrestling Gear Fan Pages on FB – if not the bigges).
 
List of All the College Dual Meets Going on during College Wrestling Week – it’s all the Division I duals. If this week is successful, we’ll promote all levels next year. If someone can put together a list of the duals in the other divisions, we will post it.

Misc Info

Just some quick thoughts – Combat Speed III’s look like they are going to be priced around $60 retail – we’ll see what they wind up officially. They will be released around July 2010.
 
If you are a youth wrestler starting up in January (a lot of programs start in January), best to buy your shoes sooner than later. Many of our top vendors are really lean and mean with youth wrestling shoes. We had problems finding certain colors and sizes in November (this is when we usually have no problem!)  I predict we are going to sell out of many sizes and you’ll likely have to settle for your second or third choice in wrestling shoes.
Of course start shopping for your youth wrestling gear with us.

So far we have posted a schedule of all the Division I wrestling dual meets this week along with who has responded to our Facebook fan page.

We will be posting more marketing ideas every week to help you promote these dual meets for your favorite team along with helping the college coaches that are looking for new ideas on how to promote their program.
